How this pathway found me
I met her years ago in Lawrence, Kansas, when we worked at the same local restaurant — always the bright light in the room, always the life of the party, never a dull moment when she's present. Then I moved, and the better part of a decade passed before I saw her again. By then I had wandered into the local music scene, which is something she had always been a part of.
She is an incredibly supportive and kind soul, well known around Kansas City for hosting wholesome events the whole community can enjoy. That is where I find her now, time and time again — in the spotlight, bringing people together. I'm very fortunate to call her my friend.
The work
Sara Nicole Glass, performing as MissConception, is a Kansas City–born poet, emcee, educator, producer, and performance artist. Her work lives where spoken word, hip-hop, flow arts, and community engagement meet — poetry, music, movement, and audience participation braided into performances that ask people to join in rather than merely watch. She holds a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing from the University of Kansas, and has spent more than two decades cultivating creative communities across the Midwest and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Much of that time has gone into building rooms for other people to be heard in. She founded the Jazzhaus of Lawrence Poetry Slurrrr series, was the founding poet behind Poetic Underground Open Mic & Slam at Kansas City's Uptown Arts Bar — which she hosted and curated for five years — and founded VibeTribeKC, a performance-artist collective with its own studio and collaborative space on Troost Avenue.
As a recording artist she has independently released seven projects blending conscious hip-hop, spoken word, electronic music, and performance art. In print, her work includes the poetry collection Class Action, the poetic memoir I Am Crazy_Recovered, her Pop Poetry publication series, and a children's book drawn from family stories and Midwestern life.
On stage she has performed at hundreds of venues and festivals across North America — among them Burning Man, Electric Forest, Hulaween, High Sierra, and the Wakarusa Music Festival, where she served several years as Performance Arts Coordinator, overseeing interactive programming, flow performers, poets, and circus artists. Her sets fold in fire performance, LED hoop dance, improvisation, character work, and storytelling built from whatever the audience offers up. She has written, produced, and performed three original Fringe Festival productions, and is among Kansas City's honored Art in the Loop performers.
Today she serves as Director of the Weiner Religious School at Congregation Beth Torah while continuing to perform, host, and curate throughout the region. In her spare time she represents the Heartland chapter of Burners Without Borders and writes children's stories. Whether on a theater stage, in a public park, or among a crowd of strangers, the mission holds steady: creativity as a tool for connection, transformation, and community.
